ChatGPT Helps Me Book Jobs

I will let you in on a little secret…

Mastering some creative prompting on ChatGPT has helped me to book more voiceover jobs lately. A lot of times on commercial ad copy, the script will ask for improvisation, ad-libs, or some creative flair and additions.

I paste the script into ChatGPT and then ask it, correctly, to evaluate the script and add these things for me. It will generate many creative ad-libbing ideas that I can use directly or spark further creative inspiration to develop my own.

So that I don’t get into any trouble with anyone, I’m going to use the classic “Think Different - ‘Here’s to the crazy ones’” Apple commercial copy.

Let’s assume the direction said to make the spot your own, ad-lib, and have fun, but stay reverent to the copy… and, of course, keep it conversational. Here is my prompt for ChatGPT:

Act as a professional voiceover artist. Take the following commercial script and add small adlibs and little improvisations. Do not alter the written text in any way. The script needs to stay 100% intact. Your additions should bring a wide-eyed wonder, reverence, and charming inspiration to the spot:

[Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.]

Here’s the result:

(Chuckles softly) Ah, here's to the crazy ones, the misfits... Yes, you know the ones I'm talking about. The rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs daring enough to exist in those square holes… the ones who aren't just looking, but truly see things differently. They're not exactly the biggest fans of rules... who can blame them?

(Whispers with a conspiratorial tone) You see, you can quote them, sure. You might even disagree with them... oh, go on, glorify or vilify them, if you must! But (laughs gently) the only thing you simply can't do, my friend, is ignore them.

(With a growing sense of wonder) They change things… they push, nudge, urge, propel the human race forward. Now, some might shake their heads and label them as the crazy ones. But us? We see genius.

(Final line delivered with warm, inspiring reverence) Why? Because the ones who are crazy enough, bold enough, daring enough to think that they can change the world... (soft, awestruck pause) ...they're the ones who do.

There is so much power in this approach to brainstorming ideas for voiceover auditions and bookings. Alter the prompt to suit your needs and the wishes of the director. Change up the styles, the tones, the directions, how much of the script to preserve, etc.
